Kumamoto University starts training teachers to accept and support foreign talent
Kumamoto University's Graduate School of Education will soon start a training program with the aim of training teachers who can support the acceptance and coexistence of foreign personnel.With the expansion of the global semiconductor company TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd.) into Kumamoto Prefecture, a kickoff symposium is scheduled for the 30th in Kumamoto City in order to promote coexistence with foreigners.
According to Kumamoto University, the new program will be offered for one year until September 2024, with a total of 9 hours of classes scheduled.Approximately 1 people, including school teachers and those with teaching licenses, will learn about Japanese language instruction and daily life support for foreign students, as well as how to create multicultural schools and classes.
The kick-off symposium was held at the Kumamoto Civic Hall in Sakuramachi, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City, and included a keynote speech by Professor Hiromi Saito of the Faculty of Education, Tokyo Gakugei University, Naoko Matsunaga, Director of the English and Japanese Language Education Promotion Office of the Kumamoto Prefectural Board of Education, and lecturers from Kumamoto City Sakurayama Junior High School. A symposium will be held with Principal Keiko Taguchi and others as panelists.
TSMC is the world's largest contract manufacturer of semiconductors.The Kumamoto factory in Kikuyo Town, Kumamoto Prefecture, which cost approximately 1 trillion yen, is almost complete and production equipment is expected to begin moving in soon.By the end of 2024, when full-scale shipments begin, many foreign workers from Taiwan and other countries are expected to come to Kumamoto with their families, and support for foreign children and coexistence with foreigners has emerged as an issue for the region.
