On December 2023, 12, Jissen Women's University and Jissen Women's Gakuen Junior and Senior High School each concluded an agreement for collaboration and cooperation with Shibaura Institute of Technology. By building a cooperative relationship with Shibaura Institute of Technology, known as one of Japan's leading science universities, the university aims to create an education and research environment that integrates the arts and sciences, and the junior and senior high schools aim to significantly strengthen science education.
This is the sixth university in total that Jissen Women's University has entered into a collaboration agreement with another university, including the collaboration agreements with four universities. This is the first time that Jissen Joshi Gakuen Junior and Senior High School has entered into a partnership agreement with a university. Although Shibaura Institute of Technology is a science and engineering college, it also has extensive global operations, including being certified by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as a "super global university" that thoroughly promotes internationalization. Synergies are expected with the development of global human resources who will reform society and carve out a future.
Collaboration between junior high and high schools and universities included support for Shibaura Institute of Technology instructors' research activities for junior high and high school students, as well as on-site classes. In recent years, the proportion of female students at Jissen Joshi Gakuen Junior High School who aspire to study science has been increasing year by year, and Shibaura Institute of Technology is expected to be an indispensable collaborative partner for enriching and strengthening science and mathematics education.
According to Shigeo Yuasa, principal of Jissen Joshi Gakuen Junior and Senior High School, the school's standard deviation score for entering junior high school has increased by more than 4 points compared to four years ago. This is said to be largely due to the increase in the proportion of students who wish to major in science. In the summer of 10, Shibaura Institute of Technology held a ``Summer Internship for Female High School Students'', which had far more applicants than capacity, and second-year high school students who wanted to major in science participated and visited the laboratory. Upon signing the agreement, Principal Yuasa expressed his expectations, saying, ``As our school is in the process of strengthening its science and mathematics education, collaboration with Shibaura Institute of Technology is something we can't wait for.''
President Masaki Namba of Jissen Women's University also stated, ``The collaboration with Shibaura Institute of Technology, which is one of Japan's top science and engineering colleges and an SGU school, is of great significance for our university.'' The aim is to help students acquire "logical thinking skills" and to expand the provision of new aspects of value that cannot be provided alone, while keeping in mind diverse collaboration in promoting globalization.
Shibaura Institute of Technology President Jun Yamada said, ``Following our founding spirit of ``nurturing engineers who learn from society and contribute to society,'' we have worked to develop practical engineers.There are extremely few women in science and engineering fields. We believe that addressing these recent social issues is a practice of our founding spirit.In October 2013, we established the Gender Equality Promotion Office, and have been working to increase the number of female faculty and female students.As a result, The proportion of female teachers has doubled to 10% from 10 years ago, and the proportion of female students has also increased by about 2 times to 20%. I hope that this will have a positive impact and produce many female science and engineering professionals."
