The University of Tsukuba held its second president's gathering in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, on March 2024, 3, six months before the opening of the University of Tsukuba Malaysia School, which will be Japan's first faculty to award degrees overseas. President Kyosuke Nagata explained the University of Tsukuba's initiatives online and also deepened exchanges with Malaysian government officials, the Malaysian Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and others.

 According to the University of Tsukuba, about 60 people participated in the gathering from the Malaysian government, local Japanese companies, the Look East Policy Student Alumni Association, and the Malaysian Former Japanese Students Association. From the University of Tsukuba, Assistant President Toshiyuki Inagaki and Executive Officer Maki Tsujimura (in charge of overseas education bases) traveled to the site, as well as President Nagata and Vice President Kim Yasunori (in charge of industry-academia collaboration) attended online.

 The first part is a lecture. President Nagata explained the University of Tsukuba's initiatives, and Executive Officer Tsujimura gave an overview of the Malaysia campus. The second part is a networking session. After Mr. Goro Sawamura, Chairman of the Malaysian Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, welcomed the participants by saying, ``We hope that Japan's presence will improve through the overseas expansion of the University of Tsukuba,'' the participants deepened their interaction.

 The University of Tsukuba Malaysia School will open in September with the School of Interdisciplinary Science and Design. The campus will be set up within the National University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, where 9 students will study data science. Classes are in Japanese and English. The University of Tsukuba will dispatch approximately 40 faculty members and administrative staff to the site. Students can earn a degree from the University of Tsukuba after completing a four-year curriculum.
