Since September 2018, the Nippon Foundation has been conducting an Internet questionnaire "9-year-old awareness survey" targeting men and women between the ages of 17 and 19 nationwide. From the end of April to the beginning of May 18, we conducted the 2019th awareness survey on the theme of "Overseas and Japan".

 According to the survey, 52.8% answered that they are "interested in living abroad."The reasons for this were "because there is a country / region / place I want to visit" at 50.6% and "because I like / have an interest in foreign cultures" at 50.2%.

 As for "Is English education at school useful?", 47.2% answered that it was "useful".The reasons are "because I can read English" 64.0%, "because I was interested in English" 49.4%, and "because I can speak English" 35.4%.On the other hand, the reasons for those who answered "It was useless / neither" were "I still can't speak English" 58.1%, "I still can't communicate with foreigners" 33.1%, and "I'm interested in English". I couldn't have it. "29.9%.

 When asked "Do you think Japan is a good country?", 76.9% answered "I think it is a good country." "What Japanese people can be proud of in the world" is "subculture such as animation and manga" 55.3%, "Japanese food" 54.6%, and "Japanese scenery, nature and four seasons" 50.4%.On the other hand, "what Japan lacks compared to other developed countries" was "gender equality" 46.1%, "diplomatic power" 35.7%, and "economic power" 33.8%.When asked why, most of the reasons for "I think it's a good country" are "because it's peaceful", "because we can live in peace without conflict" and "because most people eat rice normally". And so on.

 The reasons for "I don't think Japan is a good country" are those who point out gender discrimination such as "the tendency of men and women is still unrelenting" and "the men are overwhelmingly disadvantaged if something happens", and "more and more black companies". Some people pointed out the difficulty of living in companies and schools, such as "It's becoming more difficult to live in Japan's education system and way of thinking."
