The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has adopted 2020 projects started by the University of Tokyo and others in the nuclear system research and development project in 15.With the aim of finding new findings that will lead to the creation of nuclear innovation, 64 studies proposed in the open call for participants were examined by a review committee consisting of university faculty members and academic experts.
According to the Ministry of Education, the selected projects are classified into three menus: "base team type", "bottleneck problem solving type", and "new idea type".
In the basic team type, four projects were selected, including the "Development of Damage Expansion Control Technology to Improve Resilience of Nuclear Structure" promoted by the University of Tokyo, Japan Atomic Energy Agency, and National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention.
In the bottleneck problem-solving type, four cases were adopted, such as "Construction of a high-precision simulation model considering the inelasticity of the piping system subject to seismic load" started by the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention and Yokohama National University.
In the new concept type, "Development of solar cell type dose meter for real-time monitoring of reactor neutrons" promoted by Institute of Physical and Chemical Research, Tohoku University, Kisarazu National College of Technology, Japan Atomic Energy Agency, Quantum Science and Technology Research and Development Organization, Seven projects were selected, including "acceleration of nuclear fuel development research incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) technology" researched by Tohoku University, Fukui University, Japan Atomic Energy Agency, and Industrial Technology Research Institute.
