A research group led by Professor Kazuhiko Fukushima of the Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences, Nagoya University (Graduate School Dean: Kazuto Kawakita) conducted joint research with Nippon Menard Cosmetics Co., Ltd. and succeeded in visualizing the active ingredients that permeated human skin. Announced that.

Until now, the permeation route and permeation rate of the active ingredient applied to human skin have been unclear. This is because it is common to evaluate the penetration into the skin using experimental animals and excised skin, and it could not be applied to human living skin due to safety and ethical issues.

In this study, we developed a new visualization method that combines the tape stripping method and TOF-SIMS (time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry), and permeated the active ingredients vitamin E and vitamin C using living human skin. We succeeded in visualizing the path on a microscopic scale.Furthermore, we were able to establish a method that can evaluate the permeation rate.

In the future, we will further clarify the details of the mechanism by which the active ingredient exerts its effect. The company plans to apply it to evaluations that enhance the performance of active ingredients such as whitening ingredients and hair growth ingredients, with the aim of further improving performance.
