Keio Information Technology Center and Keio University SFC Research Institute Blockchain Lab are collaborating with Itochu Techno Solutions Co., Ltd., JCB Co., Ltd., Nishinihon Telegraph and Telephone Co., Ltd., JapanDigitalDesign Co., Ltd., and BlockBase Co., Ltd. In October 5, we started a demonstration experiment of the next-generation digital identity platform, which issues certificates of enrollment and expected graduation to university students to smartphone apps, in collaboration with Microsoft Corporation.

Currently, at each university, due to the spread of the new coronavirus infectious disease, the procedures for classes and various counters are becoming online, and a mechanism for completing the procedures for issuing various certificates to current students and graduates online. It needs to be made.

Therefore, in this demonstration experiment, we will verify the functions and standardization of the digital identity platform that enables online acquisition of various certificates without presenting identification cards or performing various written procedures at the university's academic affairs counter. I do.In the next-generation digital identity platform, in addition to various attributes such as name, address, and age, various certification data such as graduation certificates and training completion certificates can be reliably verified online, so generalization is currently underway. Utilize the digital certificate technology "Verifiable Credentials (VC)" and "Decentralized Identifiers (DID)" that represent persistent identifiers in a decentralized model that does not depend on a specific company / organization.

In addition, in the demonstration experiment, we will issue a graduation certificate with a smartphone app to students who are engaged in employment activities, and cooperate with private companies such as providing transcripts and graduation certificates to hiring companies, as well as transfer and transfer. Considering information sharing between universities across regions and countries.By achieving compliance with international standards and interoperability, not only will it be easier to verify the identity of students in online classes, but it will also be possible to reduce the time and effort required to collaborate between universities regarding the credits earned by students.

In the future, we aim to improve student convenience by applying student discounts by linking with payment systems for online shopping and commercial systems such as school commuter passes. The ability to generally verify perpetual digital identities issued by universities is expected to expand business in areas such as finance, healthcare, and government services that require credit information and quick identity verification.
