Hiroshima University has decided to add quotas for women to the comprehensive selection for the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Engineering, as well as the school recommendation selection for the Faculty of Information Science, starting from the 2026 entrance exam. This is part of Hiroshima University's ``Shining Entrance Examination,'' which aims to increase the number of female science professionals, who are in short supply nationwide, and provides a variety of ways to enter the university. "Shining Entrance Examination" is a general term for Hiroshima University's unique comprehensive type and school recommendation type selection, which was named from the 2019 entrance exam.

According to Hiroshima University, the Faculty of Science will conduct the comprehensive selection type II, which requires a common university entrance test. The number of applicants for the female slot is seven in total from the five departments of the Faculty of Science (compared to 5 for the general slot), and applications for both the general slot and the women's slot are allowed. Applications are expected to be submitted in early October, and results will be announced in mid-February.

For the Faculty of Engineering, only the special engineering course is subject to a common university entrance test, which is the Comprehensive Selection Type II. The recruitment number for the female slot is 15. The Special Engineering Course is a course that was introduced in the 2018 entrance exam and has the characteristic of allowing you to check the learning content of each category (Category XNUMX to Category XNUMX) and decide on the category to which you belong after enrolling.

The Faculty of Information Science and Technology will be selected under the school-recommended selection type I regional revitalization framework, and will not require a common university entrance test. The number of applicants for the female slot is 15 (compared to 30 for the general slot), and applications for both the general slot and the women's slot are allowed. The schedule is for applications to be submitted in early November and results to be announced in early December.

At Hiroshima University, the proportion of female new students is about 40%, but only about 15% in the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Engineering, and Faculty of Information Science, which foster human resources in the sciences. In order to create innovation, it is necessary to develop diverse human resources, including women, and there was an urgent need to increase the proportion of women in science departments.

In addition to the women's quota, Hiroshima University will introduce a new comprehensive selection method that further develops the entrance examination method that evaluates applicants' research activities into the daytime course of the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Biological Production. The recruitment number is 5 people each. There will be no common test for university entrance exams, and results will be announced on November 11st, which is the earliest date under the university entrance exam system. In addition, the Faculty of Law (daytime courses and night courses) and the Faculty of Biological Production will abolish recruitment for the second half of the general selection process from the 1 entrance exam.
