Tokyo University of the Arts COI Research Promotion Organization, Mitsubishi Chemical Group, and Shimadzu Corporation have established the "New Technology Study Group for Art in the IoT Era".We are working to develop technical human resources through a program that incorporates STEAM education that integrates science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics.

According to Tokyo University of the Arts, at the study group, the Tokyo University of the Arts COI Research Promotion Organization will plan a program in which artists and musicians will serve as lecturers, and will provide it to young engineers and researchers at Mitsubishi Chemical and Shimadzu Corporation.

Five programs will be held in 2022, and a total of about 5 engineers and researchers are expected to attend. At the first meeting of the study group held at the Ueno Campus of Tokyo University of the Arts in Ueno Park, Taito-ku, Tokyo at the end of July, we invited Ruriko Tsuchida, Director of the Toyama Glass Art Museum in Toyama Prefecture, and gave a lecture on the art of glass and new materials. .

Since 2019, Tokyo University of the Arts has been collaborating with Mitsubishi Chemical in planning and implementing educational programs for employees that combine art and technology. In this activity, a new violin bow using carbon fiber composite material is being developed.

Shimadzu Corporation joined the collaboration this time, leading to the establishment of the study group. Shimadzu's analysis and measurement technology will be used in the study group activities in order to clarify various artistic issues from a scientific point of view.

Due to the diversification of the social environment, values, and lifestyles, it is becoming difficult for companies to independently create products and services with high added value. For this reason, Mitsubishi Chemical and Shimadzu Corporation are learning from art the creativity of creating something from scratch.
